Near Chewonki, there is a tidal rapid on the Sheepscot River called Sheepscot falls. Because it’s tidal and only occurs two and a half hours after the Portland high tide, we sometimes go at interesting times. Like 5 am.
It’s foggy and quiet. The only people around are enthusiastic runners and the only sounds are birds. There are often other kayakers. I’ve actually been told that the noise of our voices carries to the nearby houses and can be a bit annoying.
And while we surfed, we watched the sun rise.
